They really take the time to educate people about the home buying and loan process and will answer any questions you have. They also have superb communication. I always knew what was coming next in my loan, because every step of the way they would email/call/text me updates and answer any questions or concerns I had. I had always heard that buying a home was the most stressful thing I would ever do in my life, but actually it was ALOT LESS stressful than I ever would have thought! They also helped me in their office when I was confused on what documents I needed to get, and helped me send and print out documents because I do not have a printer or computer, only a smart phone. I work two jobs and have extremely limited time, so it was great to be able to go to their office anytime I had a free hour and have them help me with no appointment necessary. They also explained the loan terms/closing costs/first time homebuyers program to me and helped me get home insurance so there was no confusion on anything when I went to go sign my closing papers. If you are considering going with another bank DO NOT! They will not give you the attention that Cornerstone does. We closed on time with NO issues. If I knew then what I knew now, I would have started the homebuying process years ago. Steve and his team made this process so much easier than I ever thought it would be! Great team, easy to work with**editing my review due to lack of communication after closing. I emailed David on 09/08/25 asking to confirm who my new servicer would be and received no response, I followed up with another email to David, Debbie, and Glenn on 09/10/25. I finally received an email today from Debbie confirming my new servicer. Additionally I was very disappointed with the “gift” they had me drive to their office for. I spent 5 minutes at my first meeting filling out a “get to know you” survey asking all about restaurants, sports teams and other interests so you can imagine my disappointment when they gave me a wooden sign with my last name and their logo etched in. I had spoken with David multiple times stating I was changing my last name so it was a bit thoughtless to give me something with a name I’m not keeping but I honestly would have looked past it however, I saw their logo was also etched into the “gift” I felt very disappointed. More like company swag that you give to employees. Who wants to display that in their new home. Would have been nicer to get a gift card to my favorite coffee shop (one of the questions on the survey I filled out). Which could have been mailed to me instead of me having to make a special trip to their office.

Very friendly and helpful in the purchase of our home. They went above and beyond helping us. Would use them again if needed.

First of all, the communication we received was deplorable and, frankly, embarrassing. I had a rather complicated loan, which meant I had a lot of questions and there were lots of things I didn’t understand. This was also my first time purchasing a home so I was very unfamiliar with the process in general. David and his team never effectively communicated with us. We were told over and over again that we would be given a call back with answers to VITAL questions and they were never returned. David and his team would change plans and adjust things WITHOUT consulting or informing us AT ALL. Furthermore, David was disrespectful, conceited, rude, condescending, and would frequently manipulate and gaslight us. My partner would call and ask a question and I would ask the same question later and we would get vastly different answers. In addition, my wife frequently got off the phone with David or Glenn in tears because of the way she was treated. David’s team waited until the last possible minute to work on important closing documents and then found countless people to blame rather than take responsibility for their own mistakes. Never once did a member of David’s team, and certainly not David himself, apologize for being discourteous or mean-spirited. After getting nowhere with his team on the day of our closing I finally asked my father to reach out for me only for him to be HUNG UP ON. I have never received such deplorable customer service. The only decent person on David’s team was Monique who we were only able to work with for a few weeks. She was fantastic. She was very easy to get a hold of and was always friendly and polite. She explained things clearly and simply without being condescending. She was knowledgeable and empathetic and I wish we had been able to work with her longer. Unfortunately, David suddenly removed her from communications and replaced her with Glenn, without explaining or consulting us, and we didn’t hear another word from her. I picked Cornerstone Mortgage for my first home purchase after reading reviews and testimonials and after this experience I don’t want to buy a second home. I have no idea why David thinks it’s acceptable to treat people the way we were treated but I hope he’s embarrassed.

I came into my first meeting with Steve and Laina very nervous and anxious -- the home buying process has always seemed intimidating and complicated to me. From the get-go, both Steve and Laina did an excellent job thoroughly explaining the entire process step by step, and eased my fears. I was fortunate enough to go under contract shortly after receiving pre-approval, and the next 4 weeks until closing was A DREAM. They communicated frequently by email, phone, and video and kept me updated on every step and what to expect next. I was even able to go on vacation out of state for a week without any issues; they kept things moving along and I didn't have to worry about a thing!! I'll be referring everyone I know who needs a lender in Pensacola -- and you've got a customer for life in me!

I had a mostly positive experience with Cornerstone, a company referred to me by my realtor. Brandon and Debbie were always quick to return my phone calls and answer my questions. The only negative here was that on my original pre-approval application form I specified that I was looking for a 15-year mortgage, and during our initial meeting that's the only thing we talked about. Late in the process I discovered that it had been switched to a 30-year without me being notified or even asked if that was OK. I got the impression it was too late to switch. They explained that it was actually to my advantage in that I could simply pay extra every month and still have it paid off in 15 years. They presented some other factors that I didn't completely understand, and if we had that discussion earlier in the process I might have agreed to it, but I would have preferred to be consulted earlier and given the option.

The adjustable pre-approval form was really helpful for me, being able to play with different numbers for down-payment, price, taxes, etc really helped me get a better idea of the price range I wanted to stay under. And I appreciated Tandy and Debbie's patience with my many phone calls, I had lots of questions throughout the process but they always answered them and made sure I understood everything. When my offer was accepted I did a soft inquiry with one other lender to see if their rates would be any better, and they were offering the exact same interest rate as Cornerstone. So I'd say expect average rates here, nothing super competitive. It was a little higher than I was seeing on websites that track the daily rates, but it was roughly reflective of the market, and I know rates can also fluctuate a bit with the type of loan you're getting. My property was about 1.5 hours away from the Pensacola area so all of my interactions with them were over the phone, but there were no issues Very early on in the process they give you an overview of the process and the different costs you'll have to pay. My only advice for them would be when you're explaining the closing costs/escrow/etc for the first time with a first-time buyer, give them an example closing-cost sheet to look at while you talk through it. Maybe have all the loan-related numbers highlighted in one color, escrow cost numbers in another, and closing cost numbers in another. They explained everything clearly, but I had to take a lot of notes to keep up. Things really clicked for me when I visually saw the itemized sheet of all the different loan costs and closing costs listed out in one place. Thanks for your help!
